It is a device used for direct steam injection. Direct steam injection utilises the discharge of steam into a liquid at a low temperature. The steam gives up its total heat to the surrounding liquid, increasing its temperature accordingly. Direct steam injection is a commonly used method for boiler feedtank heating. It is a simple method, as no heating coil or steam trap set is needed, and there is no need to consider the condensate return as all the steam is condensed and mixed in with the tank contents.
Special Note: for every kg of steam injected into the liquid, 1 litre of water will be added to the volume of liquid in the tank. This should be considered for tank size to avoid overflow.

A connected steam flow draws in cold liquid from the tank contents into a chamber and mixes it with the steam, then discharges the mixed/heated liquid into the tank.

The steam supply pipe should be at least the same size as the Heater inlet connection. The Heater should be securely bracketed to avoid vibration and fitted as low down in the water as possible, ensuring the heater is sufficiently submerged at all times. To avoid wasting steam and maximising the silencing and heating process, install a tail pipe on the discharge end approximately 250mm to 300mm long, pointing to the most remote part of the tank to allow thorough mixing and circulation in the tank.

It is rated to handle 13 bar of pressure (188.5 psi), making it suitable for use in moderately high-pressure heating systems.
